Welcome to Drawing & Painting
Drawing/Painting is designed to increase student’s skills and refine their techniques in drawing and painting. Students will experiment visually and conceptually with charcoal, ink, pencil, pastel, watercolor, acrylic, oil, and mixed media. This course will offer the student a creative experience in drawing and painting through observational drawing as well as fantasy, illustration and abstraction. Class projects will cover concepts and ideas that utilize drawing and painting as visual tools for expression. Students will explore traditional approaches in drawing and painting as well as contemporary approaches.
Grading Procedures Class Projects 65% 7-8 Major art projects a semester (3 or 4 each MP) Homework/research/vocabulary/art history 15% 12 homework assignments for the semester (6 each MP) Homework will include; art sketchbook assignments/research/vocabulary Homework turned in on due date Participation/clean-up/critiques 20% Listening/contributing in critiques/demonstrations Cleanup of area/materials Written in class peer assessments/self evaluations Time on task/ability to problem solve/work independently Research for art projects Group project contribution Participation in art exhibits/set up or exhibiting Daily attendance/participation in field trips |
Final Assessment
FINAL PROJECT (60%): Successful demonstration of the knowledge and application of the Elements of Design Based on: Craftsmanship, skill and mastery of media Problem solving and risk taking Conceptual strength of work and originality Final portfolio review of finished class projects for entire semester CRITIQUE (20%) SELF ASSESSMENT (20%) Written self assessment and peer assessment Student Expectations Utilize entire class period Follow directions as written/demonstrated Problem solve/experiment Respect tools and materials Clean up own area Listen/contribute during critiques Focus on in class peer assessment Turn in homework on time/ according to rubric Begin to document artwork using the digital camera (for placement in Advanced Art courses) |
Class Investigations
Students will investigate a wide range of wet and dry media processes in class.
